DIVERSITY/YOUNG PROFESSIONALS COMMITTEE
The Diversity/Young Professionals Committee is a joint committee between AWWA Hawaii and the Hawaii Water Environment Association (HWEA). The Committee's objectives are: (1) Create awareness of diversity's issues in the section using Forums/Workshops and (2) Provide leadership in identifying and recommending qualified minorities and women for appointment to section's committees and leadership positions. |

LEGISLATION / REGULATION COMMITTEE
The Legislation/Regulation Committee’s objectives are: (1) Monitor and analyze State legislation that affects Hawaii’s Water Industry. Besides the legislation that directly addresses drinking water, the committee should watch for bills dealing with water utility rates, utility financing, worker safety, professional licensing, water rights, the handling of toxic chemicals, bottled water, point-of-use devices, wetlands, and other issues, (2) Recommend such actions or positions to the Water Utility/Government Affairs Council Chair which appear to be beneficial and desirable and are within the limits set forth in the current “Policy Statement on AWWA Public Affairs Activities, (3) Communicate with legislators, (4) Communicate with section members. Newsletter article should be submitted to the Section Newsletter at the end of the legislative session to inform members of passage of legislation which may affect the industry, (5) Monitor and Analyze state and federal regulations which affect Hawaii’s water industry, and (6) Work with AWWA’s Government Affairs Program. |

OPERATORS TRAINING COMMITTEE
The Operator Training Committee’s objectives are: (1) Organize training classes for operators, (2) Work with the Department of Health and the Certification Board to insure that classes meet with their approval and are eligible for CEU credits, (3) Review agents for AWWA workshops to determine if they should be eligible for CEU credits, and (4) Write certification board and request CEU credits for appropriate AWWA workshops. |

PACIFIC RIM COMMITTEE
The Pacific Rim Committee’s objectives are: (1) Increase participation by Pacific Rim members, (2) Work with Water For People Committee Chair to coordinate efforts in the Pacific Rim areas. Provide avenue for interchange of information with our Pacific Rim members, (3) Send newsletter articles about water related issues in the Pacific Rim areas, (4) Coordinate with conference committee to have at least one speaker either from or about Pacific Rim areas, and (5) Report activities to the Water Utility/Government Affairs Council Chair. |

RESEARCH COMMITTEE
The Research Committee's objectives are: (1) Ensure that all research performed within the Section is included in the AWWA Research Foundation's technology transfer system data base, (2) Provide information to AWWA and the AWWA Research Foundation on the research priorities of the Section, (3) Encourage individuals, firms and institutions performing research to present and publish the research, even when the research is deemed unsuccessful, so that the research will benefit the Section and AWWA, (4) Identify and promote those research capabilities unique to Hawaii and promote those capabilities with the AWWA Research Foundation, and (5) Work with the University of Hawaii to suggest specific water/water industry related thesis topics for graduate students. |
