2004 GEORGE WARREN FULLER AWARDEE

2004 FullerAwardee Ray MatasciThe recipient of the 2004 George Warren Fuller Award is Ray Matasci, Vice President and Manager of Hawaii Operations for Brown & Caldwell.   Ray began his career with Brown & Caldwell in 1981 at Walnut Creek, California. In 1990, he initiated Brown & Caldwell's presence in Maui.  Today, he manages all Brown & Caldwell operations in Hawaii. Ray combines a strong professional engineering career specializing in drinking and wastewater projects together with an equally dedicated commitment to the American Water Works Association. As a manager, principal-in-charge, or project engineer, he has provided outstanding leadership to numerous water-related projects over the past two decades.

As a member of AWWA since 1985 and of the Hawaii Section since 1990, Ray has diligently and successfully served in all of the section's leadership positions. Ray has held the following positions within the local organization:

2002-2005 National Director (Association level)

Ray received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California-Davis and received his Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University. He was named the AWWA outstanding Section (Hawaii) member in 1999 and is also a member of the Hawaii Water Environment Association (HWEA) and Tau Beta Pi. Ray also serves as Chair of the pastoral council and lector at St. Theresa's Church on Maui.

2004 OUTSTANDING SECTION MEMBER AWARDEES

The Outstanding Section Member Award is presented to a member who through his/her interest and demonstrated activity has contributed significantly to the progress and well-being of the AWWA Hawaii Section, but who has not otherwise previously been recognized. This year's recipients are:

  • Audrey Yokota (Engineering Solutions, Inc.)
  • Gary Fernandez (Honolulu Board of Water Supply)
Audrey has done an outstanding job as the Section Conference Chair for the past two years while Gary was recognized for his efforts as coach of the Honolulu Board of Water Supply Women's Pipe Tapping Champions.
