Highlights of May 11 (Wednesday), 2005
Renaissance Ilikai Hotel, Waikiki
The 31st Annual Conference of the American Water Works Association - Hawaii Section opened at the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel on Wednesday, May 11, 2005. The conference was called to order by Dawn Barsana, Conference Chair. Paul Scott, section chair, welcomed the attendees. The Honorable Mufi Hanneman, Mayor of the City & County of Honolulu, then delivered the keynote address.
Rodney Villanueva was master of ceremonies for the 21st "Ono" Water Contest. Water this year came from private and public water systems. Celebrity judges included Marlay Price, AWWA Immediate Past-President; Tina Shelton, KITV Channel 4 News; Bruce Macler, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Charmaine Tavares, Maui County Councilmember; and Mike Victorino, Maui Department of Water Supply. The "ono" water was judged on three criteria: taste (pleasing/ refreshing), appearance (clarity), and odor (lack of). Congratulations to the Kahili Mountain Park Water System on Kauai, who took 1st place. The top three finishers were:
