38th Annual AWWA Hawaii Conference and Exposition
The Hawaii Section of the American Water Works Association is proud to announce the 38th Annual Conference at the Hawaii Convention Center from April 17 to April 20. As utility agencies nationwide continue to address critical infrastructure needs, they must also remain vigilant to stretch each dollar during these trying economic times. Increasing capital and maintenance costs must blend with proactive communication on the easy-to-forget convenience of this most precious of resources. This year's theme,"Ke 'Ike Nei Me Ka Mahalo I Ka Waiwai 0 Ka Wai - Recognizing with Appreciation the Value of Water'', emphasizes the importance of carrying this message to the communities we serve.
Pre-Conference Chairs Trevor Inouye and Lance Takehara have assembled two terrific workshops to attend on April 17. The first will focus on water distribution systems and is geared for water system operators and those in field operations. The second features the debut of a workshop targeted at skills for Young Professionals. Morning sessions include Basic Pipe Design and tips for navigating the permitting process. Afternoon sessions will cover Project and Time Management, professional development, and how to get involved with the activities of the Young Professionals committee.
The Conference officially opens on Wednesday, April 18 with exhibitors showing the newest and latest products. Hawaii Section Chair Jason Takaki will provide opening remarks followed by a general session with incoming AWWA President Charles Anderson. The championship round ofthe always exciting Pipe Tapping competition concludes the morning.
Technical sessions start Wednesday afternoon covering a variety of topics, including an overview of the Engineers Without Borders project in Thailand and the Young Professionals Committee forum. At the end of the day, the exhibitors will host the "Meet & Greet" in the Exhibit Hall. Catch up with old friends or make new acquaintances. Listen for your name as a drawing prize winner!
Thursday's program will be highlighted by the return of the Top Ops contest. Newly appointed HBWS Manager & Chief Engineer, Ernest Lau will speak at lunch and Awards Chair Daryl Hiromoto will present the annual awards. Join more Technical Sessions in the afternoon or participate in the Small Water Systems Roundtable. The outdoor concourse will be the setting for our Installation Program and announcement of our Fuller Awardee. The program will start at 4:30PM followed by a reception.
On Friday, we will have a "first look" at the preliminary Non-Potable Water Standards being developed by the Honolulu BWS, an AWWA Hawaii general membership meeting, and the conference will conclude with the 171h annual Water for People golf tournament at Ewa Beach Golf Course.
We look forward to seeing all of you at the Conference!
