CHAIR'S MESSAGE
By Jason Takaki, AWWA Hawaii Section Chair
(Posted 2011 08 02)

Thank you for visiting the AWWA Hawaii Section website and for your interest in and support of safe drinking water. We are proud to be the local representatives of the American Water Works Association, the authoritative resource on safe water.
As an all-volunteer organization, I am constantly amazed by the continuing contributions of time and energy that so many so freely give to AWWA. They help our organization work and thrive. Your recently-seated slate of Board Members is a talented and dedicated group and I look forward to working with them in the coming year.
A hearty welcome to Joanna Seto, from the Department of Health Safe Drinking Water Branch, who is joining us as Government Trustee, and to John Chung, from Belt Collins Hawaii, who is joining us as Secretary. We also welcome Ken Ota, from Pacific Pipe Company, to his new position as Section Vice Chair, Mike Street, from Bowers+Kubota, to his new position as Section Treasurer, and Earl Ichimura, from Pural Water Specialty Company, to his new position as Manufacturer Trustee. Thank you to Jon Muraoka, of Fukunaga and Associates, for assuming the role of Section Director. Jon will serve for 3 years, which began at the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition in June. A great big welcome and mahalo must go out to Cliff Lum, from URS Corporation, as he fills the critical role of our At-Large Trustee – Conference. Finally, thank you to all our returning officers, committee chairs and committee members for their continuing support of the AWWA Hawaii Section.
These are challenging economic times for all of us, our families, our friends and our neighbors. It has never been more important to work together to ensure our basic needs are met and there is no greater need than safe drinking water. We can look with optimism to a sustainable water future by making every effort to communicate the true value of water. The AWWA Only Tap Water Delivers program can help you do that.
A sustainable water future also requires us to communicate the true value of the water profession. For those in the water industry, I hope you realize and appreciate your critical role in securing public health. Share your passion with your colleagues and within your community. Again, AWWA is happy to help through Work for Water.
In these and so many other ways, AWWA is here to help you work better. Take advantage of these resources and a myriad of other learning and networking events. And for our members, take your Hawaii Section membership farther. Get involved, get active, and expand your network by joining one of our committees. For more information on the various committees or for help in deciding which committee to join, please contact me, one of the officers or any of the committee chairs. |
