CHAIR'S MESSAGE
By Daryl Hiromoto, AWWA Hawaii Section Past-Chair
(Updated 2010 05 23)

My tenure as Chair of the Hawaii Section of AWWA has come to an end, and at our Hawaii Section Annual Conference on May 20, 2010, your new section officers were installed. The Hawaii Section is now in the capable hands of Audrey Yokota, the 2010 Chair. We can all look forward to a year of great leadership with Audrey and a great AWWA year because of your other hard working section volunteers for 2010.
Having the opportunity to look back and reflect on this past year reminds me of when I was in school and it was the first day of summer vacation. There were so many things I wanted to do during the summer and it felt like I had all the time in the world to do it. Next thing you know summer is over and I didn’t get to do half of the things I wanted to. The thing that derailed my plans the most was the daily event of staying up all-night and sleeping all-day.
In a similar way, my daily job may have gotten in the way of realizing some of the plans I had at the beginning of my year as Chair. Like every thing else in the water industry, it’s been challenging. The tough economy doesn’t help and we all feel like there’s too much work and not enough time. Despite the challenging year, I wouldn’t change anything. It’s been a privilege to serve you, the Hawaii Section, and I have been the beneficiary of this experience. I would like to thank all of our Officers and Committee Chairs for allowing me to work with them this past year and all of the help they provided. And I did need a lot of help.
In closing I would like to again extend the invitation for you to get more involved in the section. I can assure you it’s an experience you won’t regret. |
