AWWA occasionally transmits various types of communications that are time-sensitive and pertinent to all or some classes of AWWA Hawaii Section members. Consequently, the AWWA Hawaii Section will post pertinent AWWA communication to our website on a regular basis. This will not only assist the AWWA Hawaii Section with communicating this information its membership, it will also provide an archive of the information for the Hawaii Section. Some of the types of AWWA information that will be posted here include:

Alerts - These announcements are about regulatory-related issues that affect our members, and might include a request for information. Recent alerts:

• Drinking water utilities across the United States have infrastructure projects that could begin construction under the time frames being proposed in economic stimulus legislation before Congress. (2009 02 05)

• On January 15, 2009, the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations unveiled its proposal for infrastructure spending in the upcoming economic stimulus bill. It would provide $2 billion for drinking water infrastructure, $6 billion for wastewater infrastructure, and $1.5 billion for rural water projects of both types. (2009 01 20)

• Massive Stimulus Program Being Readied - AWWA is asking its members to do two things: 1) urgently communicate with Congress in support of at least $10 billion for drinking water infrastructure; and 2) urgently communicate with your state SRF or infrastructure financing authority concerning your projects that can be “shovel ready” very soon. Advisories - Advisories pertain to public affairs or management/operational issues that are of interest to utility members. Recent advisories:

• Announcement from the Environmental Working Group on Chromium-6 testing by utilities, and potential media inquiries that may result from the announcement. (2011 04 06)

• A survey on water utility labs' electronic reporting capabilities. (2011 04 06)

• Recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics that USEPA impose an immediate moratorium on all partial lead service line replacements. (2011 04 06)
  

• Updated information and recommendations on concerns over radiation and drinking water. (2011 04 06)
  

• U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release of organic compounds found in water used for public supply. (2008 12 05)

Other - These announcements relate to events associated with AWWA such as webcasts, appointments, and other items that might be of broad public interest, and which might be picked up by and published in the press. Some recent announcements include:

• Water professionals will learn from subject matter experts about the benefits of using mobile technologies for metering during an American Water Works Association (AWWA) webcast taking place at 1 p.m. EST on January 28. (2009 01 20)
